CDC GUIDANCE

As provided by the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) an N95 FFR is a type of respirator which removes particles from the air that are breathed through it. These respirators filter out at least 95% of very small (0.3 micron) particles. N95 FFRs are capable of filtering out all types of particles, including bacteria and viruses.

However, face masks are not to be confused with Respirators. Refer to the CDC guidance which in summary states

“unlike to close fitting and sealed approved N95 approved respirator, facemasks are loose-fitting and provide only barrier protection against droplets, including large respiratory particles. No fit testing or seal check is necessary with facemasks. Most facemasks do not prevent leakage around the edge of the mask when the user inhales. The role of facemasks is for patient source control, to prevent contamination of the surrounding area when a person coughs or sneezes.  Patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 should wear a facemask until they are isolated in a hospital or at home”

OUR SAFETY FACE MASKS

Face masks manufactured by Airflow Filters INC. all include at least one layer of MERV 13 filtration material rated to remove particles as small as 0.3 microns. This material is used in our Higher Efficiency HVAC filters that are effective in providing superior home air filtration. What is seen by the naked eye are typically larger than 10 microns. Particles particularly those that measure below 4 microns can cause significant health problems.

MERV ratings allow you to effectively compare one type or brand of filter to another. User’s Guide for ASHRAE Standard 52.2-2007 shows MERV 13 and above filtration ratings are appropriate application in general surgery, hospitals, and health care facilities.

While AFF face masks are made with high quality MERV 13 materials they are not designed or recommended for surgical applications. AFF face masks are high quality general use masks that offer significantly higher filtration than fabric masks alone.
